Each of these therapies
have been important in their own right and have brought me
temporary relief. They have also broadened my understanding of many
different therapies. Luckily I was able to adhere to them but none
of them actually resolved the problem to the point where I could
live a normal life again.
At the beginning of the illness I tried many
different painkillers which I had to take in progressively stronger
and larger doses and which became less effective over time, until
my stomach could not absorb them anymore. In acute periods only
Aspirin or Paracetamol would help to ease the pain a little, as
did the supine position.
An acute period would last on average
for 4 months and after that I would enjoy a respite of about a few
hours relief. Sometimes, when the pain became very intense, I found
myself contemplating thoughts of suicide as a way out of this agony.
During this period I had also been practising positive thinking
and Raja Yoga meditation and this began to sustain and help me enormously.
My conviction that there is always a solution to any problem began
to grow.
